Swedish Sonet targets at American moviegoers

World brief

Modern Times Group's film distribution and production shop Sonet will make English-lingo productions for the first time next year.

"Rancid," the first of three slated English-lingo pics, will be directed by L.A.-based Swedish filmmaker Jack Ersgard. "Ms. Idilia" is in script development, as is a third, untitled project.

Sonet managing director and founder Peter Possne told Daily Variety the company is seeking co-production partners for all three pics and is on the verge of signing one for "Rancid," a thriller set in L.A. and Canada. Half of all tickets sold in Sweden are for Sonet-distributed films.
