'Runner' gets footing at Lot 47
Award-winning 16th-century set pic picked up
"Fast Runner" is a love story set in the 16th century in the Arctic region of Igloolik. Tale centers on true love triumphing over an arranged marriage and the malevolent machinations of an evil shaman.
Pic was co-produced by Igloolik Isuma Prods. and the National Film Board of Canada's Aboriginal Filmmaking Program. Kunuk, pic's scribe Paul Apak Angilirq and Norman Cohn also served as co-producers.
Pic world premiered at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Camera d'Or. It made its North American premiere at the Telluride Film Festival and shared director kudos at the Edinburgh Film Festival.
