Top Cow falls for Zide's sci-fi pitch
Topper Seldin to o'see project's development, prod'n
Pitch was brought into the company by Chris Carlisle, head of development for Top Cow, and purchased by Top Cow topper Spike Seldin, who will oversee its development and production with Carlisle.
Low-six-figure deal is the first sale for Zide, who is also a singer-songwriter. Zide was vacationing in Italy and not available for comment.
"This project," Carlisle said, "fits perfectly into Top Cow's model of franchise management: Developing 'high-concept' worlds and franchiseable characters that have commercial potential on multiple entertainment platforms."
Top Cow, the third largest American comic book publisher, will control rights to the "Fallen Angel" concept for publishing, broadcast and feature film. Storyline follows an archangel who, having been cast out of heaven for having helped start a rebellion, must redeem himself with good works on earth.
Top Cow has closed feature development deals with Warner Bros. ("Inferno" with producer Joel Silver); MGM ("The Cleaner" with John Woo and Terrence Chang's Lion Rock) and Fox ("The A Team") -- and has received a second-season order on TV skein "Witchblade," the popular TNT series based on the comic.
Zide is managed by Energy Entertainment.
