Spike Lee, Don Hewitt and Sony Pictures Classics execs Michael Barker, Marcie Bloom and Tom Bernard will be honored at the Third Annual Directors Guild of America Honors.

The event, set for Nov. 17 at the Waldorf-Astoria in Gotham, is designed to celebrate distinguished contributions to the nation's culture in support of filmmaking and television.

"The Directors Guild of America Honors is proud to acknowledge remarkable contributions to American culture," said DGA National Vice President Ed Sherin.

Lee has directed and produced more than 25 films, including "She's Gotta Have It," "School Daze," "Do the Right Thing," and "He Got Game."

Hewitt, exec producer of "60 Minutes," was the first exec producer of the CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite. He also produced and directed the coverage of the seven Mercury flights and produced the first TV debate between Richard Nixon and John F. Kennedy.

Barker, Bernard and Bloom are co-presidents of Sony Pictures Classics. The nine-year-old company has released "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," "Howards End," "Crumb," "Welcome to the Dollhouse," "Lone Star," "Waiting for Guffman" and "The Spanish Prisoner," among others pics.
