Loudeye taps Weld COO

Loudeye Technologies, the Seattle-based company that converts audio and video for broadcast over the Internet, has upped David Weld to prexy and chief operating officer.
Weld was senior veep and general manager of Loudeye's digital media services group. He will report to CEO John Baker, who will be focused on strategic alliances and acquisitions, while Weld will focus primarily on day-to-day operations. Baker also previously had held the role of prexy. The post of chief operating officer has remained vacant since March after David Bullis ankled.
Loudeye, which also provides digital rights management services for copyrighted material distribbed online, has signed deals with AOL Time Warner, Napster, Amazon.com and CDNow to provide metadata content for the distribution of digital music. The company began restructuring its services after slashing its workforce by 45% in April.
"David Weld is a seasoned operating executive with a solid track record in managing high-growth technology companies," Baker said. "His promotion will allow me to be more externally focused, where I expect to spend more time with customers, partners and other parties vital to the future growth of the company. We are fortunate to have someone with David's capabilities and experience on board to assume a larger management role at this juncture in the company's development."
Prior to joining Loudeye, Weld was a founder and CEO of Alive.com, which was acquired by Loudeye in 1999.
