Harlin seeks Law for Finnish biopic

Helmer Renny Harlin is eyeing thesp Jude Law as the lead for his big-budget pic about the father of Finland, Carl Mannerheim, who died in 1951.

Heikki Vihin is penning the English-lingo script, which will be produced by Finland's Solar Films, which is searching for an international co-financing partner. The estimated budget is $30 million.

Harlin hopes to begin shooting in 2003, with release date of '05.

His is the third project about Mannerheim, who after the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia restored law and order in Finland, which declared its independence after 100 years of Russian sovereignty. He became president in 1944.

Finland's Marko Rohr and Mattila Prods. are in talks with Russia's Lenfilm to co-produce a pic about his life. Another, smaller-scale project is led by docu helmer Taru Maekelae.
