'Minority' delays means Deauville sans Spielberg
Helmer expected to pull out of Venice as well

The director nixed Deauville Aug. 10, saying he would be unable to attend the Sept. 8 screening of "A.I. Artificial Intelligence" because of post-production delays on the $80 million Tom Cruise-starrer "Minority Report."
A Deauville spokesperson said: "We were looking forward to having him so we are a bit disappointed, but he's not coming to Europe so there you have it."
Venice Fest chief Alberto Barbera told Daily Variety: "I am still waiting for official confirmation that Spielberg will not be in Venice, but I've been aware for some time of problems due to his commitment on 'Minority Report.'"
Barbera added: "I understand that when high budget films like this are involved, there are other considerations."
"A.I." stars Jude Law and Haley Joel Osment are expected to attend both Deauville and Venice. Pic is released in France Oct. 24.
