TNT preps 'Covert'

Cabler, Beckner Story to develop CIA saga

TNT has inked a deal to produce a project based on journalist Ted Gup's "The Book of Honor: Covert Lives and Classified Deaths at the CIA." The Beckner Story Co., a partnership between spouses producer-scribe Michael Beckner and former Walt Disney exec Anne Sterling Beckner, will write and produce.

Gup's "Book of Honor" is based on interviews with hundreds of current and former Central Intelligence Agency case officers. Title takes its name from the CIA's name for a ledger containing the names of the men and women who gave their lives serving the agency. About half the entries are blank because, the CIA says, it doesn't want to compromise ongoing campaigns. Gup's book argues that many of the untold stories threaten nothing except perhaps the agency's sense of shame over botched operations.

Script, to be written by Beckner, will be exec produced by Beckner and Sterling Beckner. Nicholas Bogner will serve as the executive on the project.

Beckner is in production on new CBS show "The Agency," which centers on the lives of a group of people who work for the CIA. He serves as creator, writer and executive producer. Beckner also penned the upcoming "Spy Game," directed by Tony Scott, starring Robert Redford and Brad Pitt.

Sterling Beckner most recently served as senior VP of production at Buena Vista Motion Picture Group, where she worked on such films as "High Fidelity," "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" and "The Straight Story." Before that, she spent six years in film acquisitions at Disney.

The TNT deal was negotiated by their attorney Lindsay Strassberg of Bloom, Hergott, Diemer & Cook; AMG represents Beckner and Beckner Story Co.
