'Body'-building Lot 47 deal
Distrib bags Sundance drama for spring rollout
Lot 47 plans a platform release next spring.
Pic was co-produced by Next Wave Films along with Stephanie Bennett, Geoffrey Pepos and Barrial.
"Some Body," which stars Bennett, Jeramy Guillory, Billy Ray Gallion and Tom Vitorino, chronicles the life of a Los Angeles elementary school teacher in her late 20s whose hormonal drives often clash with her desire for stability and permanence. Pic is an only slightly fictionalized account of Bennett's own experiences.
"Stephanie and Henry have made a terrific film about power, sex and anxiety -- two things all of us aspire to and one that we all achieve," said Lot 47 prexy Jeff Lipsky.
Filling 'Dance card
Lot 47 is turning into one of the largest buyers of pics from Sundance 2001, which overall saw a slow year. "Some Body" is the third pic the company acquired. The others were Michael Cuesta's "L.I.E." and Billy Morrissette's "Scotland, PA" -- to be released in September and February, respectively.
Other upcoming Lot 47 releases include Gary Burns' "Waydowntown," Laurent Firode's "Happenstance" and Claire Denis' controversial "Trouble Every Day," starring Vincent Gallo.
Next Wave Films helps finance digital features; it also provides finishing funds and acts as a producer's rep on various pics.
Company was also involved with Christopher Nolan's debut film "Following" and Jordan Melamed's "Manic," to be released next year.
