MTV, L-Squared team for 'Enigma'
Animated pic to explore 'the history of human consciousnes'
|
Pic, expected to be 35-40 minutes in length, will combine music, technology and dance via computer-animated graphics and large-format 3-D/2-D technology.
Project will be produced by MTV Films, Brett Leonard ("Lawnmower Man" and 3-D Imax film "T-Rex: Back to the Cretaceous") and Michael Lewis ("T-Rex: Back to the Cretaceous," "Siegfried & Roy: The Magic Box"). Computer-graphics 3-D animator Glenn Grillo ("Spawn," "Cyborg 3") will make his directorial debut with the film.
Pic, now in the final conceptual stages, will be backed by a combination of sponsorship and indie financing. Worldwide rights to project will be shared by MTV and L-Squared.
Project will show a virtual world fueled by electronica music mixed by hip techno-dance artists and will take viewers on a visual journey through "the history of human consciousness."
The music accompanying the production can be adapted to fit the musical styles and sensibilities of different regions around the world.
"I would equate the experience as sort of a similar idea to a planetarium show where you sit down and listen to amazing music and see visuals, lights and sounds," explained David Gale, senior VP of MTV Films.
Production, which has yet to begin, is expected to be completed next year and is slated to hit large-format 3-D/2-D theaters worldwide in summer 2002, in conjunction with a worldwide live event tour.
"Enigma 2013 is a natural extension from music to movies and further demonstrates the commitment of MTV to develop and produce breakthrough forums and genres of filmed entertainment," Gale added.
MTV will tap into its programming and promotional resources to build awareness for pic as well as support it through MTV, MTV2, MTV.com and large-screen filmed entertainment, and also explore ancillary distribution revenues for the film on TV, video and various other formats.
"Our partnership with MTV Films will enable both companies to continually break new talent, elevate this format to another level and introduce a new cyber-spiritual world to music, tech and film fans," said Brett Leonard, co-chairman of L-Squared Entertainment and producer of "Enigma 2013."
