Local wins at Munich

The 19th Munich Film Fest closed Saturday, honoring a raft of tyro filmmakers.

Local film school grad Benjamin Quabeck walked away with top prize, the DM80,000 ($34,767) Hypovereinsbank Directors Support Award, for his graduation film, "No Regrets."

The High Hopes Award for the best newcomer film went to the Korea's Bong Joon-Ho for "Flanders Eu Gae."

In the Intl. Festival of Film Schools, which runs parallel to the Munich fest, kudos went to Slawomir Fabicki of the Lodz Film School for "A Man Thing" and Hungarian student Kornel Mundruczo for "Day After Day."
