Topper Novak touts Mainframe earnings
Vancouver-based co. nets $1.58 mil
For the year ended March 31, 2001, the Vancouver-based company best-known for bringing "ReBoot" to the small screen, posted earnings of C$2.4 million ($1.58 million) on revenues of $26.3 million, up from net earnings of $555,000 on $21.1 million in revenues the previous year.
"The foundation laid in previous years is now supporting the ongoing production requirements of the company," Novak said. "More importantly, we are now able to take full advantage of the merchandising and licensing opportunities presented by the properties we own."
Formed in 1993, Mainframe shuffled its management last month, with Novak taking over as CEO, and former CEO Ian Pearson taking on the newly created post of Chief Creative Officer.
During the year, Mainframe delivered 27 episodes of "Heavy Gear" and 23 of "Action Man," as well as "Casper's Haunted Christmas," a direct-to-video release. Last year the company delivered 52 TV episodes in total.
Currently, Mainframe is finishing up on 26 episodes of "Action Man" for Hasbro Properties Group, and is in production with 40 episodes of "Heavy Gear" for Adelaide Prods., a subsid of Sony. It is also producing a direct-to-video "Barbie" as well as the first of two feature-length made-for-TV movies based on the company's popular "ReBoot" series.
Last month, Mainframe announced plans to develop and co-produce a new animated TV series based on the classic character Betty Boop.
