Inside Move: Eye's reality 'Race'
Cart coming before horse as net sets casting call
Not only does the Eye's Web home page refer to the skein as "the new CBS hit reality series" -- more than two months before it premieres -- but the net is already scouting for 11 pairs of American couples to participate in "The Amazing Race 2."
Eye execs say the casting call doesn't necessarily signal a production commitment for a sequel. But it usually takes as long as two months to cast a reality drama, and producers Touchstone, Bruckheimer Films and CBS Prods. hope to get the wheels in motion now in case the first "Amazing Race" takes off.
With the show garnering strong buzz at the upfronts, CBS would like to ready "Amazing Race 2" in time for midseason. That means -- Web site bravado aside -- that Eye execs won't have long to determine whether "Race" is a hit before proceeding with a sequel.
