Marketing vet Rose to ankle UIP post
Exec may return to native Oz
It's believed Rose, whose three-year contract ended last month, has agreed to stay on until the end of October.
Rose declined to comment when contacted by Daily Variety Monday, but he has told friends he will probably return to his native Australia, although he has not ruled out staying in the U.K.
The exec was hand-picked by UIP chairman-CEO Paul Oneile and was expected to stay at UIP to finish restructuring the theatrical distrib's worldwide advertising agency deals -- an initiative that will slice millions off the company's overhead.
Austere days
UIP has been under pressure to cut costs since MGM exited the Paramount-Vivendi U joint venture.
Company has not said how it intends to fill Rose's post.
Before moving to UIP, Rose worked for more than 25 years in film distribution, marketing and promotion, distribution and exhibition, including stints with Hoyts, Greater Union, the South Australian Film Corp. and Australia's Wonderland theme park.
Just prior to joining to UIP, he was CEO of Oz pay TV operator Australis Media, which later went belly up.
