Sogecable in DTT pact

Spain's conglom pacts with Portuguese consortium

MADRID -- Spain's biggest film and TV conglom, Sogecable, has inked a deal with a Portuguese digital terrestrial television consortium teaming telco ONI and TV group Media Capital to supply contents and technological/subscriber management know-how.

Deal hinges on the consortium snagging a DTT license.

The application period for Portugal's new pay DTT license closed Friday. A second group including SGC, commercial net SIC and pubcaster RTP is challenging for the single license. The DTT deal is Sogecable's first foreign accord since it took a 3% stake in Canal Plus Technologies.

The CPT shareholding allows Sogecable, which is part-owned by Canal Plus, to supply enabling digital pay TV technology to third-party companies in Spain, Portugal and Latin America.
