Reed Midem draws Zilk
Exec to head teams running Reed's nine trade confabs
In the newly created post, Zilk will head the teams running Reed's nine trade confabs, which include TV marts Mip TV and Mipcom and the music industry's Midem.
Roy will continue to helm the organization he joined 34 years ago and has topped for 12 years.
He first revealed he was planning to appoint a managing director during the Mip TV confab in April.
He told Daily Variety back then: "It's only natural that I should start preparing my succession now, but I'm too attached to this company to leave it just like that. I'll be recruiting a managing director to help me, but I'll continue as CEO."
Zilk, who joins Reed from his post heading a Paris-based startup, has "20 years of experience in marketing, management and international business-building," a Reed statement said Monday.
He began his marketing career with the Carnation Co. in L.A. in 1981 and went on to work on several successful product brands before moving in 1987 to Nestle in Switzerland.
From 1992-2000 he headed the international business of the National Basketball Assn., with responsibility for the NBA brand in Europe, Asia, Australia and Latin America. He is currently president and chief executive of Auction Land, an European Internet auction service based in Paris and owned by the Group Arnault.
