Andrew Howard
"I'm sure there are a million gay (radio) hosts, but not many of them are open, and no one had ever appeared on the air as a gay couple," said Ron Rodrigues, editor in chief of Radio & Records magazine.
Their show, "Karel & Andrew," ran two years on top-rated Los Angeles station KFI-AM. Their banter was fueled by their contrasting personalities; shy-guy Howard could stop Bouley in his tracks with one well-placed word.
Born and raised in Big Bear, Calif., Howard met Bouley at a Garden Grove club in 1989. At the time, Bouley was writing copy and shooting pictures for music publications, and Howard was waiting tables at Reuben's Steak House.
Although KFI co-workers were initially cool to the pair, they were won over with time and threw the couple a party on their 10th anniversary. The station had been in the process of finding a new timeslot for the duo after "Karel & Andrew" was bumped off the air by a higher-rated personality last month.
In addition to his radio work, Howard completed two children's novels he hoped to get published and a gay-themed play written for Bouley to star in.
In addition to Bouley, he is survived by his parents.
