Deal marks Cromosoma's first U.S. rights sale. "The Triplets" already has been sold to more than 130 countries, including to feevees like Cartoon Network and Fox outside the U.S.
Telemundo has acquired 26 episodes, with an option for another 39 half-hour segs.
"The Triplets" targets kids 4-9 with the adventures of three mischievous young sisters whose experiences include dealing with historic figures like Leonardo da Vinci and Buffalo Bill, and more-contemporary fictional characters like King Kong.
Given the series' international success, Cromosoma is going to produce another 39 episodes, for a total of 104, and is planning a $13 million movie.
"The feature we aim to finish by year-end 2004 for a spring or summer 2004 launch," managing director Sergi Reitg told Daily Variety. "We are looking for an international distribution partner so the film can be released in several countries simultaneously to exploit licensing opportunities."
In the film, the girls will journey to the center of the Earth.
The first U.S. broadcasting sale will allow Cromosoma to pursue licensing and publishing deals for "The Triplets" in this market, Reitg said.
Cromosoma is currently promoting two other series, "Juanito Jones," featuring a young boy who has daydream adventures, and "Mini Man," about a bug-size extraterrestrial who helps children with everyday problems.
"Mini Man" will be completed in time for Mipcom, Reitg said.
Both "Mini Man" and "Juanito Jones" have been acquired by Nickelodeon Latin America.
