Yes TV boosts Welsh operation

VOD outfit investing $33 mil, tripling staff

LONDON -- Video-on-demand company Yes Television is investing a further £23 million ($33 million) over four years in its technology headquarters in Cardiff, Wales.

The move includes tripling staff at the center to 310 employees.

Meanwhile, the Welsh government is granting several million dollars of its own money to help keep the nascent business afloat.

Unlike rival Video Networks, Yes has yet to begin rolling out its service across the U.K. due to the prohibitive carriage costs associated with using telco British Telecom's network.

Instead, Yes has focused on building its international presence, including setting up offices in L.A., Hong Kong, Sydney and Melbourne.
