Icon mothering Segal

Par-based co. wants helmer to birth Allen 'StarChild'

Mel Gibson and Bruce Davey's Paramount-based Icon Prods. is in negotiations with Peter Segal to direct "StarChild," a sci fi comedy penned by Dan O'Dowd, with Tim Allen attached to star.

Paramount Pictures, where Icon is based, will handle domestic distribution on the pic.

Film will be produced by Allen's Boxing Cat Prods. partner Brian Reilly and Icon's Davey and Steve McEveety. O'Dowd will co-produce and act in the pic as well. Boxing Cat's Matt Carroll will serve as associate producer, along with Icon's Eveleen Bandy.

Reps for Allen said the thesp has not committed to making the pic his next project.

"StarChild" traces the exploits of a socially challenged CIA agent whose task is to get the Roswell Alien back home before interplanetary war erupts on Earth.

O'Dowd is currently working on a comedy with Pierre Weiderman of David Foster Prods. at Warner Bros.

Scott Penney of the Chasin Agency helped package the pic with Segal, Allen, Icon and Boxing Cat. Allen is repped by William Morris.

Segal, repped by CAA, has helmed such pics as "The Nutty Professor: the Klumps" and "Tommy Boy."
