DMX, AEI in harmony

Digital music distribs consummate marriage

NEW YORK -- Liberty Digital unit DMX Music and AEI Music Network have completed their merger, creating a digital music distribution firm to be 56% owned by Liberty Digital.

The new company, which will be called DMX/AEI Music and headquartered in Los Angeles, named to its board several media industry veterans, including former EMI Music topper Jim Fifield, Liberty Media senior VP David Koff and Liberty Digital prexy and chief exec Lee Masters. AEI founder CEO Michael J. Malone will be chairman of DMX/AEI's board.

DMX/AEI also tapped DMX chief Lon Troxel to be prexy-chief operating officer of the new entity. Former AEI finance VP Michael Matysik was named exec VP-chief financial officer, and AEI VP of international Lance Ayrault was tapped exec VP of the combined company's global operations.

New firm combines DMX's strength in residential music distribution services with AEI's presence in the commercial market, catering to the airline, retail and hospitality industries.

DMX/AEI will distribute digital music to more than 8.5 million homes via cable and satellite connections, as well as to such business partners as Victoria's Secret, Pottery Barn, Chili's and Cozymel's. The company also distributes prepackaged musicvideo content for businesses.
