Murdoch's Shine glows with 3i coin

Co. has 2-year, $14 mil output deal with BSkyB

LONDON -- Elisabeth Murdoch has raised an extra £6 million ($8.5 million) for her TV and film production company, Shine Entertainment.

Murdoch, daughter of News Corp. supremo Rupert Murdoch, previously announced a two-year, $14 million output deal with News Corp.-controlled satcaster BSkyB (Daily Variety, March 23).

The new cash is coming from U.K. investment house 3i.

Murdoch ankled her position as managing director of BSkyB division Sky Networks last year and at the time was said to be setting up a new-media company.

Murdoch owns 80% of Shine and is both chair and CEO. Waheed Alli, exec director and former chief exec of Carlton Prods., as well as co-founder of TV indie Planet 24, holds 15%. The remaining 5% is held by BSkyB.
