The labs offer emerging directors and scribes the opportunity to develop new works guided by experienced filmmakers in an atmosphere of collaboration and innovation. Last year's Sundance fave "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" was developed at the lab from the successful play.
"This is the 20th anniversary of the ... Lab," said Michelle Satter, founding director of the project. "We have been truly honored to work with many filmmakers who have defined and challenged the definition of independent film, including Quentin Tarantino, Allison Anders, Paul T. Anderson, Tony Bui, Gregory Nava, Kimberly Peirce, Miguel Arteta, Gregg Araki and John Cameron Mitchell, among many others."
