Acad bows student noms

38 chosen to receive kudos June 10

Thirty-eight students from 22 U.S. colleges and universities have been tapped finalists for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences' 28th annual Student Academy Awards, skedded for June 10 at the Acad's Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

AMPAS also has named five finalists for the competition's 21st annual honorary foreign lingo category. The finalists -- from the Netherlands, France, Mexico, Germany and Poland -- were selected out of 27 submissions from 23 countries. Winners will be announced later this month after a vote by Academy members.

Gold medal winners will walk away with $5,000, silver medalists will take home $3,000, and bronze medalists $2,000, up from last year's $2,000, $1,500 and $1,000. Winners will be flown to L.A. for a week of industry-related activities before the awards ceremony.
