Yes rolls out HK pay TV program

Pilot project to include Disney, BBC, Hallmark, MTV Asia channels

HONG KONG -- Pay TV provider Yes Television's long-awaited pilot program will kick off in May.

Company has chosen an affluent city neighborhood called Taikoo Shing for the trial, which will include content from Disney, the BBC, IMG/TWI Sports, the Hallmark Channel, MTV Asia and CNBC.

Mei Ah Film Production, Power TV, CETV, Regentact and Universe Films will provide local content.

Launch of U.K.-based Yes demonstrates that it has held steady in the face of months of turmoil in the city's pay TV market.

News Corp.-owned satcaster Star withdrew from the license process in December, and Hong Kong Network Television aborted its bid last month.

Both cited concerns that the market is too small to support all the new players.

Galaxy Satellite Broadcasting, a subsidiary of terrestrial giant TVB, missed the deadline for a deposit payment to the government and may have to forfeit its license as a result.
