Pair 'Shoot' for $10 mil

Duo to segue into creating their own series after o'seeing sitcom

Scribe producers David Guarascio and Moses Port have inked a four-year, $10 million deal to develop new programming for NBC Studios and take over as showrunners on "Just Shoot Me" from Marsh McCall.

Guarascio and Port will share the exec producer title for two seasons with the Peacock laffer's creator, Steven Levitan. McCall recently inked a development deal with Columbia TriStar Television and Brad Grey TV (Daily Variety, April 9).

After the two-year stint on "Shoot," Guarascio and Port will spend the following two years creating, developing and producing comedy series for NBC Studios.

The two scribes have been with "Shoot" for three seasons, most recently as co-exec producers. They had previously written for "Mad About You."

"I'm thrilled David and Moses are staying on board," Levitan said. "They're wonderful writers and original thinkers who have earned the confidence of the entire cast and crew."

NBC Studios prexy Ted Harbert said he would have loved it if Guarascio and Port could begin to develop new shows immediately, but understood that "Just Shoot Me," renewed for two more seasons earlier this month, was "crucial to the network."

By waiting, "NBC Studios still wins, because they both get two years of showrunning experience," Harbert said.

As for the duo's abilities, Harbert called Guarascio and Port, who are repped by UTA and Hansen Jacobson Teller & Hoberman, "a really, really smart team.

"They understand the NBC brand perfectly," he said. "They're also really funny and doggedly determined to make sure everything is the best it can be."

Universal Studios exec VP Susan Workman tagged the scribes "the perfect showrunners for 'Just Shoot Me.' "
