Garnering top prize for grad-level films was Ari Gold's "Helicopter," a 2000 Student Academy Award winner. Gold also took the outstanding directing award.
Winning second place was "Because of Mama," a 2001 Sundance entry directed by Serguei Bassine, who also won a grad award for excellence.
Third prize went to "Baby," a Sundance entry by Bridget Bedard, who also picked up a grad-level outstanding writing nod.
Among undergrad films, top prize went to Anthony Ng's "...(dot dot dot)." Director also won the undergrad outstanding writing award. Second prize went to Eric Rolnick's "The Truce," and third to Joaquin Asencio's "The Censor." Agnieszka Wojtowicz-Vosloo won both an outstanding directing nod and an award for excellence for her film "Pate," a 2001 Sundance entry.
Fest's judges included producer Jean Doumanian, USA Films senior VP Steven Raphael, Good Machine senior VP of development Anne Carey and New York magazine film critic Peter Rainer. Main sponsor was the Charles and Lucille King Family Foundation. Among other sponsors were Lew and Edie Wasserman and New York magazine.
