Rumpus buys kids site

Gotham co. to use Zeeks for toons, toys

HOLLYWOOD -- Entertainment venture Rumpus has acquired Zeeks.com, a popular gaming and community site for kids.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Gotham-based Rumpus swept in after Zeeks, with over 500,000 subscribers, had already posted a formal goodbye to its users. Rumpus will use the site, based in Portland, Ore., as an additional channel for its feature-length animated features and sale of its homevids and its line of toys. Steven Bryan will continue to oversee Zeeks.com as CEO.

In addition to its Web site, the company also publishes 16 CD-ROM titles for kids.

"From a marketing perspective, Zeeks.com is a strong addition to the stable of Rumpus properties," said Rumpus president Rick Mischel, a former prexy of Harvey Entertainment.

Company also recently inked a deal with IMG to handle the global licensing efforts for TV, homevid and toys.
