The tyke market: Spain

Little Concert

Producing company: Television Espanola (TVE)

Creatives: Fernando Argenta, /writer/host:

Number of episodes/length: 50 30-minute episodes

Concept: Kids culture show mixing live classical music extracts, explained by games, acting, audience participation and good-hearted tomfoolery

Selling point: The show is an ingratiating and original format fronted by the indefatigable Argenta, famous for popularizing classical music with preschool kidlets to early teenagers; it appeals to parents and kids, making for right-minded family viewing. The program sold at MIP TV as a program and format.

Producer's take: "It's the kind of program a pubcaster should put on," says Argenta, who fleshed out the show from a suggestion by Pio Cabanillas, RTVE CEO until April. "There are kids concerts programs on other stations around the world, but we think 'Conciertazo's' game element and drive is unique. It's a slot which can capture anyone from 2-year-olds upwards.

"We've included fragments from some 300 pieces over 50 episodes: half from the 20th century, 40% from the Romantic period. Children normally think classical music is boring. We hope we're showing them otherwise," adds producer Maite Varela.
