As Adam Sandler wrapped shooting the Oahu scenes last week for the untitled Paul Thomas Anderson movie from Joe Roth's Revolution Studios, the closely guarded storyline of the $25 million film has come to light.
The Anderson-penned and -helmed pic, which production staff have referred to as the "X4 Project," co-stars Academy Award-nominated Emily Watson. Sandler plays the owner of a phone-sex business that is slowly failing; as a result, three thugs are sent out to get him.
Meanwhile, his sister tries to set him up on a blind date with Watson's character. Sandler is disinterested, but ends up meeting her by chance. Later, Sandler's character grows obsessed with saving coupons from a pudding company that's offering frequent flyer miles with every purchase, and eventually he earns enough miles to take a trip around the world. But he can't forget the mysterious woman who, he learns, has left for a vacation in Hawaii. With his life in turmoil, Barry uses his coupons for a trip to Hawaii to find her.
The production filmed mostly in and around Waikiki with some shots at the airport and Kahala Mandarin Oriental Hotel, where Sandler stayed.
