Thornton beams on Henson's 'Sun'

Pic lensing slated to being March 24

Billy Bob Thornton will star in the drama "Behind the Sun" for Lions Gate Films, Propaganda Films and MM Media Capital. Pic is slated to begin production March 24.

"Behind" shoot will precede Thornton's participation in another Lions Gate pic, "Monster's Ball," which is set for a May 1 start (Daily Variety, Feb. 21).

Written and directed by Robby Henson ("Pharaoh's Army"), "Behind" concerns an intolerant sheriff, rejected by his peers, who takes refuge with the disenfranchised whom he claimed to despise. Drama will shoot in Louisiana. John Morrissey ("American History X") is producing.

MMCP's Peter Rogers will rep the pic's international rights.

Thornton recently directed "All The Pretty Horses." He next will be seen in "Wakin' Up in Reno" and "Daddy & Them" for Miramax Films.
