Daily Variety and the Hollywood Reporter will co-present VES 2001: A Festival of Visual Effects, the third edition of the Visual Effects Society's annual event.
Fest, to be held June 22-24 at the Los Angeles Film School, will present panels featuring members of the original groundbreaking f/x teams from "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," "Star Wars" and the "Star Trek" TV series. Pics will unspool during the festival.
The weekend will kick off with screenings of f/x sequences from DreamWorks' upcoming CG animated pic "Shrek" and Paramount's "Enemy at the Gates," presented by Peter Chiang.
Saturday's sked includes panel "The Future of Visual Effects on the Web" and f/x screenings of "The Mummy Returns" and "Star Trek."
Sunday will see "Visual Effects for Commercials," presented by Digital Domain; a rundown of the f/x process behind Ivan Reitman's sci-fi pic "Evolution," presented by Phil Tippett; and, for the finale, a presentation of f/x from Buena Vista's upcoming "Pearl Harbor" with f/x supervisor Eric Brevig. and his Industrial Light & Magic team.
