KABC dominates local news sweeps

Station wins for six straight races

The February sweeps news races ended Wednesday with KABC and KTTV grasping narrow wins at 5 p.m. and 10 p.m., respectively.

KABC, which has now won the local race at 4, 5 and 6 p.m. in Los Angles for six straight sweeps, scored a 5.7 rating/12 share, beating KNBC's 5.5/12 share. The average was the same for the full 28 days of the sweep as it was for the 27-day average (Daily Variety, March 1).

In the hotly contested 10 p.m. news race, KTTV edged out KTLA in both the Monday-Friday and Monday-Sunday ratings races.

KTTV's 28-day Monday-Friday average turned out to be a 4.4/7 to KTLA's 4.2/7. Both stations were registering a 4.2/7 for the 27-day average.

The 28-day Monday-Sunday numbers also put KTTV ahead as well, at 4.5/8 versus KTLA's 4.1/7. While KTLA's average remained the same as the 27-day average, KTTV nudged ahead from its 27-day 4.4/7 perf.

Meanwhile, the 11 p.m. news crown went decisively to KNBC, with an 8.2/18 to KABC's 6.3/14 and KCBS' 4.6/10.
