'Storm' unleashed at Mandalay Bay
Event a blend of 'musical energy with acts of nature'
The show, described as a combination of a live concert, a Broadway show and a Las Vegas dance spectacular, will be executive produced by Martin's manager, Alberto Perez, and produced by Mandalay Bay and Angelo Medina Enterprises, which specializes in artist management and concert/event promotions.
"Storm's" creative team is headed up by director Jamie King, who is Martin's artistic director and has directed and choreographed for Britney Spears and Madonna. Composer George Noriega has produced and written several songs for Martin; set designer Gerard Howland has worked for the San Francisco Opera and designed the stage for the Rolling Stones' "Bridges to Babylon" world tour.
"We're blending musical energy with acts of nature, which is new in entertainment," said Glenn Schaeffer, president of Mandalay Resort Group. "We have created a powerful, sensual experience people will find nowhere else in the world."
"Storm" is a 360-degree performance with no curtain. A "Prologue" is followed by four acts that combine music and nature. Four characters -- "Earth," "Wind," "Fire" and "Water" -- lead a cast of 50 stage and aerial performers through 14 songs.
Mandalay Bay opened its 1,800-seat theater with a yearlong run of "Chicago -- The Musical" and currently is presenting Blue Man Group at the Luxor.
