'Gladiator,' 'Famous' win Eddies

'Beach Boys,' Showtime among TV kudos

"Gladiator" and "Almost Famous" were named best edited feature films -- dramatic and musical or comedy, respectively -- at the American Cinema Editors' 51st annual Eddie Awards ceremony Sunday night.

Pietro Scalia took the Eddie for "Gladiator," Joe Hutshing and Saar Klein received the nod for "Almost Famous."

Best edited episode from a TV miniseries went to Geoffrey Rowland and Bryan M. Horne for "Part 1" of ABC's "The Beach Boys: An American Family." Peter Zinner received the best edited motion picture nod for noncommercial TV for Showtime's "Dirty Pictures."

Robert Zemeckis was honored with the ACE Golden Eddie for filmmaker of the year, presented by past recipient Steven Spielberg. Honorary career achievement awards were given to Fredric Steinkamp and Stanley Frazen at the ceremony, held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.

Other Eddie Award winners included the editors of the pilot of Fox's "Malcolm in the Middle"; "What Kind of Day Has it Been," an episode of NBC's "The West Wing"; the documentary "Into the Arms of Strangers: Stories of the Kindertransport"; and Fox's "Dark Angel."
