Throats clear for 'Powerpuff'

Creator McCracken to helm, produce pic

NEW YORK -- The "Powerpuff Girls" are going Hollywood.

After extended negotiations, the actresses who voice the animated superheroes Bubbles, Blossom and Buttercup on the Cartoon Network series have signed on for the theatrical version of the hit show.

"It was always our intent to have the original voices," said Brian Miller, general manager for Cartoon Network Studios, which will produce the pic. "Reports of negotiation breakdowns have been greatly exaggerated."

Craig McCracken, the series creator, will direct and the produce the film, which Cartoon Net's sister company Warner Bros. will release in summer 2002.

While Miller declined to comment on the final deal with the actresses -- Tara Strong (Bubbles), Catherine Cavadini (Blossom) and E. G. Daily (Buttercup) -- he said, "All parties are happy at this point."
