'Tiger' springs to U.K. record

Martial arts pic hits $4.5 mil, surpasses 'Beautiful'

"Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" has become the highest grossing foreign-language film in the U.K., overtaking previous record holder "Life Is Beautiful."

On Wednesday last week, 20 days after its release, Columbia TriStar Intl.'s "Tiger" passed "Beautiful's" $4.4 million with $4.5 million.

After three weeks at No. 1 in London, Ang Lee's balletic actioner fell to second this weekend, with $550,000 in on 116 screens.
