Slamdance plants 'Hybrid' as best feature

"Daydream Believer," directed by Debra Eisenstadt, won for dramatic feature; "Boundaries," helmed by Greg Durbin, the Grand Jury prize for short; and "American Chai," from director Anurag Mehta, the audience award for feature.
Other celebrated pics were "White Face," directed by Brian McDonald, which took the audience award for short; "Old Man and the Goblins," directed by Seamus Walsh and Mark Caballero, the Ilford black-and-white award; "Memento Mori," directed by Koreans Kim Tae-yong and Min Gyo-dong, the Kodak vision award for best cinematography (Kim Yoon-soo); "Barking Dogs Never Bite," helmed by Korean Bong Joon-ho, the editing nod (Le Eun-soo).
The nine-minute long "The Ballad of Little Roger Mead," directed by Mark Carter, won the Spirit of Slamdance award. A runner-up prize was bestowed upon Ray McKinnon for his 38-minute "The Accountant," while a Global Anarchy audience award went to Gregg Bishop's six-minute pic "Voodoo." Gregor snagged the moviemaker breakthrough award for "The Trouble With Lou."
Winners of the fifth annual Slamdance screenplay competition were "Gotta Keep Movin' " by Russell Paquette (first place); "Tokens," Thomas Russell (second); and "Lemon Grove," David Guest (third).
Winning pics will screen Feb. 7 and 8 at the American Cinematheque at the Egyptian Theater in Los Angeles. They will also unspool at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, March 16-18; the Boots Pioneer Theater in New York, March 20; and the Charles Theater in Baltimore, March 25.
