Accused Peruvian TV exec ankles

Crousillat resigns amid ongoing corruption scandal

LIMA -- A top exec at Canal 4-America Television has ankled his post as a result of an ongoing corruption scandal gripping Peru. Jose Francisco Crousillat, exec VP at the net, resigned Thursday. He has been implicated in cases of alleged influence peddling.

The exec is also involved in an ongoing investigation of the former administration's use of ad monies to pressure and bribe the media to stick with former President Alberto Fujimori and attack the opposition.

Canal 4 was one of the staunchest pro-Fujimori outlets, pushing the president in its news coverage and through its daytime talk shows.

The Peruvian government emerged as the country's largest advertiser over the past few years, and government ministries were the top three advertisers between January and March 2000, the months leading up to last year's controversial presidential elections.

Crousillat has denied the charges; his father, Jose Enrique Crousillat, owns the network.
