CIE takes 51% of Latino promoter

Hauser to be renamed, will continue to promote Latin stars

MIAMI -- Latin America's leading live-entertainment company CIE is acquiring a majority stake in Hauser Entertainment, a top promoter of Latino events in the U.S., for roughly $13 million.

CIE will have a 51% stake in what will be renamed CIE-Hauser Latin Tours, based in Los Angeles. Ralph Hauser will become CEO; he and other minority shareholders will own the other 49%.

Hauser presented roughly 100 events in 2000 and was ranked by Pollstar as one of the U.S.' leading promoters for the year.

CIE-Hauser Latin Tours will maintain Hauser's existing exclusivity agreements for the U.S. market with Latin artists including Juan Gabriel, Alejandro Fernandez and Ana Gabriel.

CIE-Hauser also will promote artists such as Mexican rockers Mana, Colombian singer Shakira and popular Mexican norteno group Los Tigres del Norte, as well as regional and folk events and family shows.

CIE said it also may use the new company to bring the Latin artists it currently promotes in Mexico and in South America to U.S. Hispanic auds.

Besides staging and promoting concerts, CIE's diverse operations in Latin America and Spain include producing and promoting legit productions and other live events, such as "Beauty and the Beast' and "Riverdance," and running theaters, other event venues and amusement parks. It is a partner in Mexican film production company Altavista and has an Internet division.
