Inside Move: Matalin out as 'Crossfire' host

Newly appointed Bush assistant to make cameos

NEW YORK -- Mary Matalin is switching roles on "Crossfire." Instead of hosting the CNN political talkshow, she'll be in the guest chair. Matalin, a "Crossfire" co-host since July 1999, was appointed assistant to President-elect George W. Bush and counselor to Vice President-elect Dick Cheney on Friday. After tendering her resignation to CNN that night, Matalin appeared as a guest on the show, discussing the Bush agenda and the confirmation process.

Bill Press and Robert Novak will continue to host "Crossfire," and CNN will be testing out guest hosts to find a replacement for Matalin. In the meantime, look for the outspoken conservative to appear as a frequent guest on the program.
