Gold will be responsible for acquiring animated and live-action productions and directing the marketing, sales and distribution of all home entertainment releases for the division.
Gold had similar responsibilities as president of On Screen Entertainment, a division of Itsy Bitsy Entertainment, where he also worked with the company's theatrical properties. Prior to DIC, Gold was senior VP of home entertainment at Harvey Entertainment and senior VP of homevideo at Trimark Pictures.
Gold, who will be based at the DIC offices in Burbank, said the division is working on the first release slate of video titles, to be distributed in May. Slate will mostly be culled from DIC's 2,500 half-hours of animated programming, including "Inspector Gadget," "Madeline," "Sonic the Hedgehog," "Sailor Moon," "Sabrina the Animated Series" and "Legend of Zelda."
He is in talks with various companies that could distribute the DIC lines, which potentially will be expanded to include multiple labels distinct from DIC that would offer sports programming and other non-kidvid fare.
"To be able to start with the asset base of 2,500 half-hours of programming that's been undervalued and underexploited worldwide was one of the big attractions for me," Gold said.
