'Late Late Show' nabs highest ratings ever
"Late Late Show" had its highest rated and most watched week ever, while "Letterman" had its highest rated and most watched week since February, when he returned from heart surgery.
"Late Late Show" posted a 1.6 rating/6 share with an average audience of 1.96 million viewers, up 14% in both households and viewers from the same week last year, according to Nielsen numbers.
"Letterman" posted a 3.9 rating/10 share with an average audience of 5.17 million viewers, up 18% in households and 25% in viewers from the same week last year.
"Late Show" was up a whopping 46% in adults 18-34 (1.9/9 from 1.3/6), 25% in adults 18-49 (2.0/9 from 1.6/7) and 22% in adults 25-54 (2.2/9 from 1.8/7), compared to the same week last year. The show's delivery in adults 18-49 and adults 25-54 is its best since the week ended Aug. 25, when the "Survivor" finale aired.
On the morning front, CBS News' "Early Show" showed much-needed signs of life, delivering its best household rating (2.4/9) since the week of Nov. 6 and its most-watched week (2.88 million viewers) since the week of Jan. 31. The ayemcast showed impressive gains in key demos, up 10% in adults 25-54, 17% in adults 35-54 and women 25-54 and 22% in women 18-49, compared to the same week last year.
Still, "Early Show" lags far behind the competish. NBC News' "Today" posted a 5.7/22 (6.83 million viewers), while ABC News' "Good Morning America" delivered a 4.1/15 (4.73 million viewers) for the week. In the key demo of adults 18-49, category frontrunner "Today" leads with a 2.5/21, followed by "GMA" with a 1.5/13. "Early Show" trails with a 0.9/8.
