IFPI CEO adds 2 years

Jay Berman, chairman and CEO of the IFPI, the global record industry org, has extended his contract for an additional two years, to the end of 2002.

Berman, an industry vet of nearly three decades, joined the IFPI in January 1999. Since then, he has overseen the integration of Latin America into the IFPI structure, the IFPI's involvement in EU Copyright Directive and the ratification of the WIPO treaty, and a concerted effort to stem music piracy.

From 1992 to 1999, Berman was chair of the RIAA, the U.S. industry org, and prior to that the RIAA's prexy and chief exec from 1987 to 1992.
