'Bowl' opens Palm Springs

Lineup includes Ullmann's 'Faithless,' Harris' 'Pollock'

The 12th annual Nortel Networks Palm Springs Intl. Film Festival has announced its gala screenings lineup for the Jan. 11-22 event.

James Ivory's "The Golden Bowl" will open the fest. An adaptation of Henry James' novel, Ivory's latest feature stars Anjelica Huston, Uma Thurman, Nick Nolte, Kate Beckinsale and Jeremy Northam.

Among the other nine entries in the fest's gala series are Liv Ullmann's "Faithless" and Ed Harris' directorial debut, "Pollock."

Other filmmakers with entries in the lineup are Ricky Tognazzi, "Canone Inverso -- Making Love"; Marcelo Pineyro, "Plata Quemada" ("Burning Money"); Xie Fei, "Song of Tibet"; Patricia Mazuy, "Saint-Cyr" ("The King's Daughters"); Eduardo Rossoff, "Ave Maria"; Aleksandr Proshkin, "Russkij bunt" ("The Captain's Daughter"); and Alex de la Iglesia, "La Comunidad" ("Common Wealth").
