Dimension brings spec laffer 'Guest' home

Zucker to helm, Kutcher to star in housesitting pic

NEW YORK -- David Dorfman's spec comedy "The Guest" is close to finding a new home at Dimension Films two years after New Line purchased it for mid-six figures.

Dimension is negotiating a deal under which the project will have an April start date, with David Zucker ("The Naked Gun") attached to direct, Ashton Kutcher attached to star and Gil Netter and John Jacobs attached to produce the pic.

In Dorfman's script, a young man enamored of the daughter of his mean-spirited boss agrees to house-sit for him for a night. Events quickly turn disastrous.

Dimension picked up the project after it was put into turnaround by New Line. Deal is one of the first big moves made by new Dimension production co-head Brad Weston since leaving Millennial Films for Miramax. Weston will oversee the project with the other production co-head, Andrew Rona.
