Clark Prods. 1st quarter drops

Dip in subsid biz profits blamed

Dick Clark Prods. said its fiscal first-quarter net income was cut by more than half due to a profit dip in noncore operations.

The Burbank, Calif.-based company said Friday that profit totaled $170,000 in the three months ended Sept. 30, compared with earnings of $360,000 in the same period of the previous fiscal year.

Revenue was down 1% to $10.4 million.

President Francis La Maina said operating profit and revenue from television production were up, but its business-consulting services were down on account of a tough comparison with a year-ago period inflated by an unusually large project, he said.

"Our primary focus continues to be on our core television activities with an emphasis on series development and production," La Main said.

The company, whose series include the syndicated musical variety show "Your Big Break," also produces TV specials. In the first quarter, those included "The 2nd Annual Family Television Awards."
