GCN bows Asian music outlet

MusicCountry replaces CMT Intl.

Nashville-based Gaylord Cable Networks, a division of Gaylord Entertainment, has launched a music entertainment channel, MusicCountry, to air in the Asia-Pacific Rim region.

The 24-hour web -- viewed by more than 1.7 million subscribers in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Guam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Taiwan and several other Asian nations -- replaces CMT Intl.

The debut of MusicCountry is part of GCN's ongoing global branding strategy for the channel.

In December, MusicCountry will launch as a full-time, Spanish-lingo network in Argentina; the Portuguese-language feed for CMT Intl. will convert to MusicCountry in Brazil during the first quarter of 2001.

"The fresh, creative mix of music styles that will be seen on MusicCountry are indicative of the way the world listens to music today -- no borders, no boundaries, no limits," said Cindy Wilson, prexy of Gaylord Cable Networks.
