U focuses on O'Connor

Begins new role with 'Billy' release

Dennis O'Connor has been appointed VP of distribution for newly formed art unit Universal Focus.

Since 1996, O'Connor had headed Trimark's theatrical division, where he acquired, marketed and distributed the indie's pics.

"Dennis brings more than a decade of experience in the specialty film arena," said Paul Hardart, senior VP at Focus.

Before joining Trimark. O'Connor worked at Samuel Goldwyn and the Landmark Theaters arthouse theater chain.

In his new role, O'Connor will steer the release of debut U Focus pic "Billy Elliot," which will get a limited bow on Oct. 13. A slate of a dozen more pics is planned, but to date only "Jezebel" has been slotted. It opens in select cities Oct. 27.
