Emmy voters eschew top-rated shows

Among most-watched, only 'Raymond,' 'Malcolm' pick up trophies

Emmy and Nielsen voters weren't on the same page this year.

Only two of the season's 20 most-watched entertainment series picked up trophies at Sunday's Emmy Awards ceremony -- CBS' "Everybody Loves Raymond" and Fox's "Malcolm in the Middle" -- with the top five shut out.

The most popular program of the season, ABC's "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire," wasn't even eligible for the primetime awards (it was relegated to the Daytime Emmys, where it competed against other gameshows) while CBS' "Survivor," which averaged more viewers than "Millionaire" this summer, missed the cutoff date for eligibility.

Among those nominated but shut out Sunday were "ER," "Friends," "Frasier," "The Practice," "Law & Order," "Dharma & Greg," "NYPD Blue" and "Judging Amy" -- all of which drew larger audiences than either "The West Wing" (22nd ranked series of season) or "Will & Grace" (30th).
